Smart Nation Vision - TÜV SÜD Drives Ideation to Implementation
Munich/Singapore, 27 October 2017: As Singapore continues to work towards realising its Smart Nation vision, TÜV SÜD demonstrated how the manufacturing and healthcare industries are embracing digital transformation to revolutionise their business. The discussions took place during its one-day conference titled “Smart Nation in Singapore: Inspiring trust in a changing world”.
Founded in 1866, global testing, inspection, certification and training provider, TÜV SÜD has been inspiring trust in new technologies for decades. Today, it continues to work hand in hand with businesses to develop safe, secure and sustainable systems, products and services. This extends to Singapore’s Smart Nation aspirations, with TÜV SÜD collaborating with partners to ensure independent developments and innovations in different sectors connect to form a seamless ecosystem.
Addressing the conference, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management, TÜV SÜD, observed, “As a global organisation doing business here in Singapore, we have found the nation to be extremely open to new ideas, creating a perfect environment for innovations to progress – for example, in manufacturing and healthcare. Although these categories appear disparate, they need to work holistically together with other smart technologies in order to realise the overall Smart Nation vision. With a can-do attitude focused on practical implementation and actionable outcomes, Singapore demonstrates just how organisations from different industries can collaborate.”
The Smart Nation Eco-System: Smart Manufacturing and Smart Healthcare
While manufacturing is an industry where Singapore maintains a leading position, there remain fluctuations in new orders and outputs. Discussing trends, successes and challenges in the Smart Manufacturing panel, Dr. Andreas Hauser, Director of Digital Service, TÜV SÜD, noted, “Singapore is addressing uncertainty through a coordinated i4.0 strategy, implementing automation and industrial IoT solutions to create an advanced ecosystem. We can provide technical support to companies in preparation for their transformation initiative ahead.”
Meanwhile in Smart Healthcare, TÜV SÜD’s Digital Service Centre of Excellence (CoE), along with partners including NTUC Health, today announced the inauguration of its Smart Elderly Care @ Home Centre. Set up to complement the government’s efforts to empower citizens to take responsibility for their health, the platform demonstrates a scalable end-to-end solution for smart elderly care model. It employs technologies that enable users to monitor their health, share data with hospitals and care services, and remain under medical supervision via trackers and smart medical devices from the comfort of their own home. The Centre will create a living platform for TÜV SÜD to testbed the safety, security, reliability and interoperability of a robust, modular and flexible Smart Elderly Care solution. It is projected to expand to other smart healthcare areas, establishing a Centre for Smart Healthcare.
TÜV SÜD’s annual conference, held at the Resorts World Convention Centre, was attended by over 200 professionals from the public and private sector who participated in discussions on paving the way to realising Smart Nation success. Panellists included representatives from the Singapore Economic Development Board, Singapore University of Technology & Design, Chevron Oronite, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, National Healthcare Group, Oliver Wyman, Pepperl+Fuchs, Rockwell Automation, NSEE and R&D Ribitzky
