Munich - TÜV SÜD now holds CBTL accreditation and can offer testing and certification of power tools in accordance with the international standard IEC 62841-1. The new standard deals with the safety requirements for drills, lawnmowers and other power tools. Successful conformity assessment facilitates market entry, thus benefiting manufacturers. TÜV SÜD’s testing laboratory is the first laboratory in Germany to offer conformity assessment according to IEC 62841-1.
"The successful accreditation reflects TÜV SÜD's leading position and expertise in the power-tool market", says Dr Jens Butenandt, CEO of TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. "As Germany's first, and so far only, testing laboratory that offers conformity assessment according to IEC 62841-1, we support manufacturers in proving that their products are in conformity with the latest standards." The international standard introduces important new provisions. Its requirements, for example, now also apply to power-operated lawn and garden equipment that previously fell under the scope of the IEC 61029-1 and IEC 60335-1 standards. Additional requirements concern lithium-ion batteries that can nowadays be found in many electric tools. Manufacturers will find that products tested and certified in accordance with the harmonised standard can be placed on the market considerably more easily. The expert report is also used as a basis for subsequent national certification such as that according to DIN standards.
