Munich/Hanover - TÜV SÜD supports logistics companies, freight carriers and automotive manufacturers by supplying a broad range of services designed to help them use and develop their vehicles with the maximum safety and efficiency. Under the heading of “Big Things On the Move”, the experts will present their services in the fields of appraisal management, fleet management, driver qualification, type approval and certification at the IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition in Hanover from 25 September to 2 October 2014 (Hall 13, Stand G22).
Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency are the three most important factors for successful fleet management. This is particularly true in the commercial-vehicle sector: fuel consumption, maintenance and damage and depreciation appraisal all play central roles. “We supply bespoke packages for companies that span all areas from vehicle approval to leasing returns”, explains Dieter Roth, Senior Project Manager Truck Services at TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH. The truck and bus experts focus all services in the TÜV SÜD Truck Services Life Cycle - spanning initial registration, fleet management, European and cross-border vehicle returns and damage and depreciation appraisal, right down to secure loading and driver qualifications.
Offering all the answers
Fleet management is the key to enhancing efficiency in truck operations. Under the umbrella of the TÜV SÜD Group, the fleet management experts at FleetCompany and Fleet Logistics are in charge of over 120,000 vehicles throughout Europe, making TÜV SÜD Europe’s largest provider of independent fleet services. A further pillar of the Truck Services Life Cycle is appraisal management, covering all services from financing/leasing returns to damage and depreciation appraisal. A classic field for TÜV SÜD is certification, where the company provides a broad range of services for the logistics industry – from quality management under ISO 9001, loading safety and trailer and superstructure certification to the “Safety in Bus Operation” certificate.
A further area of TÜV SÜD’s core business in the commercial-vehicle sector is driver qualification. Here, the GermanProfessional Drivers’ Qualification Act plays a central role; the transitional arrangement applies to September 2016 at the latest, depending on the expiry date of the driving licence. Further TÜV SÜD course modules for truck drivers include “Arbeitsplatz Lkw – Sozialvorschriften und Beförderungsauftrag” (Working On Wheels – Social Security Regulations and Transport Orders); “Moderne Nutzfahrzeugtechnik – Sicherheitstechnik und Fahrsicherheit“ (Modern Commercial Vehicle Engineering – Safety Technology and Driving Safety) and “Ladungssicherung – Sicherheitsvorschriften“ (Load Securing – Safety Regulations). In addition, at the IAA the experts from TÜV SÜD will present their services in the Automotive sector, focusing on type approval and functional safety.
Efficiency and emissions under control
For TÜV SÜD, the heading of “Big Things On the Move” also means providing support for companies against the backdrop of high fuel prices and ever stricter environmental regulations. In the eyes of the logistics experts, this area offers enormous potential for cost-cutting, given that fuel costs account for up to 45 per cent of the operational costs of a truck. Dieter Roth comments, “Saving fuel also means cutting carbon emissions, an area in which drivers are playing an increasingly important role, with the ability to save up to two litres of fuel over 100 kilometres. When this calculation is applied to a fleet of 50 trucks, it results in cost savings of around a quarter of a million euros per year (150,000 kilometres travelled annually). That’s good for business, good for the environment and good for the company’s image.” TÜV SÜD provides special driver training courses in economical driving, training drivers to slash fuel consumption permanently.
Under the heading of “Big Things On the Move”, TÜV SÜD will present its complete portfolio of truck services at the IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition in Hanover. At Stand G22 in Hall 13, TÜV SÜD Auto Service will offer comprehensive solutions and innovative concepts for the commercial vehicle and logistics industries.
