Munich - Professor Dr Peter Schaff, Chief Executive Officer of the Management Service Division of TÜV SÜD AG, has been appointed Chairman of the Independent International Organisation for Certification (IIOC). The IIOC members elect a new chairman every two years.
IIOC was set up in 1993 as an independent organisation with the aim of uniting the worlds of standardisation, certification and accreditation to benefit the worldwide business community. Its key tasks include increasing the demand for accredited certification, maintaining its credibility and improving awareness of the benefits it offers. It comprises ten of the world's leading certification companies: ABS, BSI, Bureau Veritas, DEKRA, DNV, Intertek, LRQA, SAI Global, SGS and TÜV SÜD.
"I am delighted to have been elected Chairman of IIOC and look forward to the new responsibilities involved in this function," said Professor Dr Schaff. "My goal is to represent the wishes and interests of IIOC members throughout the world. Together, we support the suppliers of certification services in their cooperation with major stakeholders, including governments and the business sector."
Marcus Long, Chief Executive of IIOC: "Together with Professor Dr Peter Schaff as Chairman of the IIOC Board and our members, we intend to vigorously pursue the goals of this organisation." IIOC continues to focus on the revision of the key ISO standards for management systems and is committed to ensuring that accredited certifications supply economic benefits to all businesses and public bodies – in both established markets and newly industrialised countries.
