Children are delighted at new playground equipment from TÜV SÜD, eibe and ELTERN
Munich/Röttingen/Hamburg - This is the year that TÜV SÜD celebrates its 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion in appropriate style, in March the company got together with play equipment manufacturer eibe and ELTERN, a leading German family life magazine – which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year – to launch a grand competition. The star prizes of the competition were play equipment for two playgrounds, including all installation as well as safety certification from TÜV SÜD, with a total value of around EUR 25,000. The competition attracted a flood of entries. Now the winners have been chosen, the new equipment has been installed, and two brand-new playgrounds are open for fun and games.
Over 200 entries were received before the competition deadline, almost two months after the first announcement. This was no easy task for the jury of representatives from the ELTERN editorial team, TÜV SÜD and eibe. Entrants included dedicated parents, municipalities, children’s daycare centres and youth groups, all eager to refurbish existing play areas or open new playgrounds; many entries were accompanied by lovingly crafted collections of photos and the children’s own paintings.
The main prize, comprising play equipment for a playground with a minimum area of 13 x 15 metres, was scooped by a dedicated group of parents and their enthusiastic children from Baden-Wuerttemberg. The parents sent in their entry in the form of a self-composed poem pleading for assistance in creating a modern playground in the outdoor area of their kindergarten, previously a neglected wasteland. They had all worked together as a team to clean up the area and get it ready for new play equipment. Their dedication and commitment was rewarded with the first prize.
The second prize, for a playground of at least 13 x 10 metres in area, went to a further deserving cause – in this case a small municipality in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The parents of the 50 or so children in the municipality had already launched a “Save our Playground” campaign at the start of the year, calling attention to the sadly outdated playground at the municipality’s festival grounds. The resulting clean-up work left little of the old playground in place; the old equipment had largely been rotten and unsafe, and much of it had to be disposed of. The installation of the new eibe play equipment from the competition prize has now crowned the campaign’s efforts with success.
The equipment was installed in time for the start of summer and certified as safe by TÜV SÜD’s experts. Now the children from the kindergarten in Baden-Wuerttemberg and the municipality in Rhineland-Palatinate can play to their hearts’ content again.
