Munich. TÜV SÜD appoints Dr. rer. nat. Dirk Schlesinger as Chief Digital Officer. In this new position, Dr. Schlesinger will assume global responsibility for driving the digital transformation of the international service corporation. He will report directly to TÜV SÜD's Chairman of the Board of Management, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken.
Digital transformation involves change, both for the economy and for society as a whole. TÜV SÜD develops new solutions to make the most of the opportunities offered by digitisation while minimising the risks involved in increasing interconnectivity. To this end, the international service corporation is pursuing a comprehensive digitisation strategy. One of the key building-blocks in this strategy is the establishment of the global Digital Service function, headed by a Chief Digital Officer. The Digital Service function will support TÜV SÜD's Divisions and Regions in extending the existing portfolio to include new digital transformation solutions and services. The appointment of Dr. Schlesinger as Chief Digital Officer and the opening of the first Centre of Excellence Digital Service in Singapore in April 2016 are two important milestones in the implementation of this strategy.
Before joining TÜV SÜD, Dr. Schlesinger worked for eleven years in various executive positions at Cisco, most recently as CEO of mozaiq, an ABB, Bosch and Cisco joint venture in the field of home automation. Previously, he was global lead for manufacturing industries at Cisco Consulting Services and Cisco's Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG). Between 2008 and 2010 he also managed the IBSG team in Asia-Pacific, which operates across all industries from telecommunications and financial services to the public sector, the retail and manufacturing industries.
From 1992 to 2005, Dr. Schlesinger was working for the Boston Consulting Group, since 2000 as Vice President and Partner in Munich and Washington D.C., working for clients in the industrial goods, energy and financial services industries. He started his career as an R&D engineer for MTU Aero Engines in Munich.
A qualified aerospace engineer, Dr. Schlesinger also holds an MBA from the University of California in Berkeley and a doctorate in mathematics from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Universität Mannheim. He maintains close contact with academia, giving guest-lectures at the International Graduate School of Management (IESE) in Barcelona and sitting on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Future Energy Business at Rotterdam’s Erasmus Universiteit.
“Industry 4.0 requires trust and change. This applies across the board, both between and within organisations – and TÜV SÜD inspires that trust”, says Dr. Schlesinger. “I am therefore excited about the challenge of supporting a corporation with such a long and successful track record on its progress into the digital era.”
