Targeted strengthening of expertise on the chemical market
Munich / Leverkusen / Schkopau. With effect from 1 July 2009, TÜV SÜD will take over the Technical Inspection unit of Dow Olefinverbund GmbH, Schkopau. By sealing this takeover, the international service provider continues on its track of continuously expanding services for the chemical and petrochemical industries. The takeover strengthens the position of TÜV SÜD Chemie Service GmbH in central Germany and opens new perspectives for driving internationalization.
"We are very happy to have been awarded the contract by Dow Olefinverbund GmbH", says Dr Manfred Bayerlein, Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG in Munich. The takeover of the Technical Inspection unit is a milestone in strengthening the market presence in the chemical industry in Germany. "This is the best proof that we are considered a serious expert partner in the chemical and petrochemical industry", adds Dr.-Ing. Hans-Nikolaus Rindfleisch, CEO of TÜV SÜD Chemie Service GmbH in Leverkusen. Significant points in favour of the inspection organization included its pronounced industry focus and proven ability to integrate former in-company testing and inspection units.
"TÜV SÜD Chemie Service was our partner of choice because its philosophy of providing integrated management of chemical and process plants matches the focus of our Technical Inspection unit", explains Harald Beer, CEO of Dow Olefinverbund GmbH in Schkopau. "Given this, we are completely confident that the inspection of our plants and installations will continue at the same high level as before and with the necessary reliability also in the future." Parallel to handing over its unit, Dow Olefinverbund GmbH will also sign a contract commissioning TÜV SÜD Chemie Service to provide the relevant inspection and test services.
The Technical Inspection unit of Dow Olefinverbund GmbH comprised eight employees who attended to the sites in Schkopau, Böhlen, Leuna and Teutschenthal. The unit will be integrated as a new unit in the organizational structure of TÜV SÜD Chemie Service. "In the chemical and petrochemical industries in particular, a local basis and familiarity with the situation on-site are crucial factors for the quality of inspection services", emphasizes Hans-JÜrgen Petersen, in charge of the new unit at TÜV SÜD Chemie Service. The takeover will save all jobs and Petersen even expects further specialists to be recruited in this region in the medium term.
One-stop service provider for the international chemical and petrochemical industries
Since it has been established, TÜV SÜD Chemie Service GmbH and its services have been aligned fully to the needs and requirements of the chemical and chemical-related industries. "As a one-stop service provider, we support our clients throughout the entire lifecycle of their installations – from planning and construction to operation, shutdown and decommissioning", explains Dr.-Ing. Rindfleisch. By taking over the US inspection company PetroChem Inspection Services and opening a branch in Shanghai in 2006, TÜV SÜD Chemie Service has additionally gained important footholds in global competition. "From these locations, we can support our clients in all key chemical markets throughout the world", emphasizes Rindfleisch. "Globally operating companies benefit from our one-stop services – worldwide." For example, Via Petrochem, TÜV SÜD's chemical specialists have already provided services to Dow Chemicals in the USA.
