Manila – Pipelines or vessels that transmit or contain hazardous materials such as chemicals or petroleum are vulnerable to corrosion, cracking and other damages. Leakages of the hazardous materials due to faulty or damaged pipelines and vessels will pose threats to human health and the environment. As such, the Filipino government is taking the initiative to develop safety standards, regulate and monitor the operations of local Filipino industries’ pipelines and vessels. Such measures will help ensure pipeline and vessel safety, minimize threats to human health and environment, sustain Filipino businesses and guarantee continued product quality.

TÜV SÜD expand its global network of testing laboratories for e-mobility

Munich - TÜV SÜD is stepping up the expansion of its global network of testing facilities for e-mobility, with plans to build two further laboratories for the testing of high-voltage batteries in South Korea and China in 2012. Counting the existing facilities in Northern America, Canada and Singapore and the Garching-based battery laboratory which is currently under construction, TÜV SÜD is the only third-party service provider maintaining a global network of laboratories for testing the batteries of electric-drive vehicles in accordance with uniform standards throughout the world: "By establishing this network, we underline our goal of becoming the leading provider of all testing services related to safety in e-mobility", stated TÜV SÜD Member of the Board of Management Horst Schneider at the press conference for eCarTec 2011 on 28 July in Munich.
United States Consumer Product Safety Commission Accredits TÜV SÜD PSB Labs in Singapore and Vietnam as 3rd-Party Conformity Assessment Bodies for Children Product Exports to US

Singapore - The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) now recognizes test results from TÜV SÜD PSB labs in Singapore and Vietnam for selected children products. Any children manufacturer in the region which needs to comply with US CPSC regulations can approach TÜV SÜD PSB for 3rd-party testing to support its certification of compliance.
TÜV SÜD Japan to offer radioactive contamination analysis services

Japan – To address the challenges and concerns faced by Japanese businesses in the wake of the accident at Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, TÜV SÜD Japan has begun offering radioactive contamination measurement services from May 30th 2011. The service, which includes the analysis of radionuclide such as I 131, Cs 134 and Cs 137, in food, water, bulk materials, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals products and more, aims to support manufacturers and suppliers monitor the radiation level of their facilities and products according to applicable requirements.
TÜV SÜD on growth course: significant rise in revenue and earnings

Munich - TÜV SÜD significantly stepped up its pace of growth in 2010. In the past year, the international service corporation increased its revenue by 10.1 per cent to over EUR 1.55 billion (2009: EUR 1.41 billion), while earnings before taxes even show a year-on-year increase of 21 per cent to EUR 123 million (2009: EUR 102 million).

TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific donates EUR 50,000 to Red Cross Japan

Singapore – TÜV SÜD, one of the world’s leading providers of testing, inspection and certification services, recently announced a donation of EUR 50,000 to the Red Cross in support of restoration efforts following the natural disaster that hit Japan on 11 March. TÜV SÜD expands its offshore wind power capacities

Munich/Hamburg - Alpha Ventus, the first German offshore wind farm, launched operations in 2010. In the future, offshore wind power will play an increasingly important role, not only in Germany but across the world. TÜV SÜD has stepped up its activities in this sector by establishing an Offshore Wind energy department. The team, headed by Alexander Heitmann and Malte Lossin, launched operations in Hamburg 1 January 2011.

Munich - TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH is continuing its course of expansion, strengthening its service portfolio for car dealerships and repair shops in the field of used-car strategy by acquiring Christof Gerhard & Partner (CGP) in Olpe, Germany. The company has also restructured its subsidiaries, enhancing its position as a one-stop service provider for the major customer sector. For this purpose, the TÜV SÜD company merged its subsidiaries TÜV SÜD Auto Consult and TÜV SÜD Auto Plus. The new company will be headed by Gerhard Gloeckner, member of the extended management team of TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH.

TÜV SÜD presents its new TexCheck quality scheme

Frankfurt am Main. In a double premiere, TÜV SÜD and its softlines services will debut at Heimtextil, the international home textiles trade fair, and also present a new certification mark. TexCheck stands for high quality standards and combines regulatory hazardous substance testing of textiles and clothing and on-site factory inspections that include aspects of social compliance in the country of production. Heimtextil 2011 will take place between 12 and 15 January 2011 in Frankfurt am Main. The TÜV SÜD experts can be found in Hall 4.1, Stand FOY 14.

TÜV SÜD: Better visibility improves road safety

Munich - As further steps towards improving road safety in Europe, reflective tape on trucks and daytime running lights (DRL) on passenger cars will improve visibility in road transport from next year onwards. From February 2011 on, special daytime running lights will become mandatory for all new cars. This measure is aimed at a clear reduction in the number of road accidents, as is the introduction of 'retro-reflective contour marking' on trucks. Although so far these markings have been voluntary, TÜV SÜD warns that from July 2011 onwards, all new trucks of 7.5 tonnes and upwards must have them.

Outright winner of e-miglia is electromobility

Munich/Rovereto - A total of 560 kilometres, four daily legs, several thousand metres in altitude – these are the statistics of e-miglia, the toughest rally for electric vehicles to date, which finished in Rovereto on Friday. The winners of the first prize of EUR 10,000 was the team "Energiebau" in a Tesla Roadster. But the outright winner is electromobility itself. e-miglia has shown that electrically powered transport is no longer a dream of the future, and the 25 vehicles all proved their ability to master the challenge. The two teams from TÜV SÜD, technical partner of e-miglia, scooped seventh and eighteenth places in Karabag 500es.
TÜV SÜD Group acquires remaining 50% shares in Service Quality (SQ) Centre from Singapore Airlines

e-miglia 2010 on the road for an emission-free Alpine journey

Munich/Füssen - e-miglia 2010, the first international rally for electric vehicles, is en route for the Alps. At 9 am sharp on Tuesday, Rudolf Graf von der Schulenburg, President of the German Automobile Club (AvD), and Richard Schalber, e-miglia rally manager, waved off the first vehicles from the TÜV SÜD premises in Munich. The 25 competitors in the exhaust-free fleet of vehicles now face a total of 560 gruelling kilometres, crossing the Alps in four daily legs to cross the finishing line at Rovereto, Italy, on 6 August.
Horst Schneider new Member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD

Starnberg - TÜV SÜD and E.ON will collaborate closely in future in the testing and advanced development of electromobility charging systems, with the primary objectives of developing safety standards and achieving rapid production-readiness for a broad range of user-friendly vehicle charging stations. This announcement was made by Dr Axel Stepken, President and CEO of TÜV SÜD, and Dr Dierk Paskert, Member of the Management Board of E.ON Energie AG, at the reopening ceremony for the modernized TÜV SÜD Service Centre at Starnberg on Friday 9 July. In addition to the opening of a direct-wired (conductive) electric vehicle charging station, test operation of a cordless inductive charging station will be launched.

TÜV SÜD addresses impact of Chinese National Standard for Restriction on Excessive Packaging of Food and Cosmetics for manufacturers

Singapore - In an effort to encourage reduction of resource consumption and promote environmental friendliness, the Chinese National Standard GB 23350-2009, outlining restrictions on excessive packaging of food and cosmetics, came into force recently in April 2010. Issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and Standardization Administration of China (SAQ), the standard will affect manufacturers, processors and retailers responsible for placing food, cosmetic and its packaging on the China market.

TÜV SÜD intensifies procedure to track down quality mark counterfeiters

Munich. The Single European Market is being flooded with increasing numbers of counterfeit products. These fakes not only cause financial losses for manufacturers, but also generate major safety problems for consumers when statutory safety tests are sidestepped in their production. TÜV SÜD has joined forces with customs authorities to establish stricter procedures against counterfeiting. Only recently a load of car jacks bearing fake quality marks and with major safety flaws was impounded at the Finnish border.

TÜV SÜD PSB achieves qualification as World Health Organisation’s Prequalified Control Laboratories

Singapore – TÜV SÜD PSB, a globally recognised quality and safety testing, inspection, certification and auditing organisation, is now officially listed as one of World Health Organisation (WHO) Prequalified Quality Control Laboratories of Pharmaceuticals. This qualification recognises that TÜV SÜD PSB’s laboratories are in compliance with WHO recommended standards governing Good Practices for National Pharmaceutical Control Laboratories (GPCL) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for the testing and analysis of pharmaceutical products.
